The Dandy Warhols

The Dandy Warhols rose from indie music notoriety to mainstream success when their "Bohemian Like You" reached the U.K. Top Ten in 2001.

The Dandy Warhols formed in Portland, Ore., in 1994, originally bringing together frontman Courtney Taylor-Taylor, lead guitarist Peter Holmström, keyboardist Zia McCabe and drummer Eric Hedford. The band signed to local indie Tim/Kerr Records after performing just one hometown show; its debut LP Dandys Rule OK drew on influences including garage rock, Britpop and neo-psychedelia, scoring a college radio hit with "The Dandy Warhols T.V. Theme Song." The album's unexpected success incited a major-label bidding war, and the band signed to Capitol Records to begin work on their follow-up LP ...The Dandy Warhols Come Down. The album yielded three Top 40 hits in Britain: "Not If You Were the Last Junkie on Earth," "Every Day Should Be a Holiday" and "Boys Better."

The Dandy Warhols' third album, 2000's Thirteen Tales from Urban Bohemia, catapulted them to international fame when the single "Bohemian Like You" was featured in an advertising campaign for mobile network operator Vodafone. The Dandys also made headlines following the 2004 release of Dig!, director Ondi Timoner's award-winning documentary spotlighting the band's love-hate relationship with the Brian Jonestown Massacre, another seminal act of the period. Subsequent LPs earned far less attention, however, although the Dandy Warhols continue recording and touring as of this writing in mid-2023.
