Peaches & Herb remain best remembered for their back-to-back disco-era hits "Shake Your Groove Thing" and "Reunited."
Peaches & Herb paired singer Herb Fame with a series of women who adopted the stage name "Peaches," beginning in 1966 with Francine Hurd Barker. The duo teamed with producer Van McCoy to record a series of Top 40 pop and R&B hits for Columbia's Date imprint, including "Let's Fall in Love" and "Close Your Eyes." When Barker retired from touring, she was replaced by Marlene Mack on live dates; Barker and Fame split in 1970, with the latter joining the Washington, D.C. police force.
Fame revived the Peaches & Herb brand in 1976, teaming with former model Linda Greene. While "Shake Your Groove Thing" was a massive dance hit, the soft, sentimental ballad "Reunited" fared even better, topping the charts and achieving pop culture immortality via frequent appearances in sitcoms, commercials and memes. Fame and Greene dissolved their partnership in 1983, but Fame continued performing into the 21st century with a succession of other women adopting the Peaches guise.
