Mazzy Star is an American alternative rock band celebrated for its dreamy, atmospheric sound, which combines elements of folk, psychedelia and shoegaze. The group is best known for its hit 1993 single "Fade Into You."

Mazzy Star - vocalist Hope Sandoval and guitarist David Roback - formed in Santa Monica, Calif., in 1989. The duo's first album, She Hangs Brightly, was released in 1990 and received critical acclaim for its bewitching production and Sandoval's haunting vocals. Its follow-up, So Tonight That I Might See, was an even bigger commercial success thanks to "Fade Into You," which peaked at number 44 on the Billboard Hot 100 and remains one of the signature songs of its decade.

Despite releasing only four studio albums, Mazzy Star maintained a devoted following and influenced many artists during a career that ended with Roback's death from cancer in early 2020. Sandoval continued on as one half of the Warm Inventions, joined by partner Colm Ó Cíosóig of My Bloody Valentine fame.
