    1994 - Now
Smash Mouth gained widespread popularity in the late 1990s for its upbeat and catchy sound blending elements of alternative rock, pop and ska.

Smash Mouth formed in 1994 in San Jose, Calif., bringing together vocalist Steve Harwell, guitarist and chief songwriter Greg Camp, bassist Paul de Lisle and drummer Kevin Coleman. Its breakthrough 1997 single "Walkin' on the Sun" topped Biilboard's Modern Rock charts and peaked at number two on the Hot 100, buoying the band's debut album Fush Yu Mang.

Smash Mouth's sophomore LP Astro Lounge spawned several hit singles, including "All Star" - memorably featured in the hit animated film Shrek - as well as "Then the Morning Comes" and "Can't Get Enough of You Baby." Although subsequent LPs failed to grab the public's attention, Smash Mouth enjoyed a second life in the 21st century thanks to millennial fans embracing "All Star" as a cornerstone text of meme culture.
