Glen Campbell

Glen Campbell's smooth voice, virtuosic guitar skills and undeniable charisma were the hallmarks of a five-decade career spanning country and pop radio.

Campbell, a native of Delight, Ark., received his first guitar when he was four years old, and by his teens, he was performing in local bands. He moved to Los Angeles in the 1960s and joined the renowned group of studio musicians known as the Wrecking Crew, contributing to iconic recordings from Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra and the Beach Boys, among many others.

The 1967 release of the hit single "Gentle on My Mind" heralded Campbell's breakthrough as a solo artist, and the following year he topped the charts with the Grammy-winning "By the Time I Get to Phoenix." The song's writer, Jimmy Webb, later penned the Campbell classics "Wichita Lineman" and "Galveston." Campbell also showcased his talents on CBS television's The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour, which aired from 1969 to 1972.

In 2011, Campbell announced that he had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease; rather than retreating from the spotlight, he embarked on a farewell tour and released his 64th and final studio album, 2017's Adiós, two months ahead of his death at the age of 81.
