  • 🇺🇸 Gary, IN
  • Years Active
    1965 - 1989
The Jackson 5 - brothers Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon and a young Michael Jackson - emerged from Gary, Ind. to achieve worldwide stardom, captivating audiences with their fresh-faced energy, synchronized dance moves and powerful vocals.

The Jackson 5 formed in 1964, spearheaded by family patriarch Joe Jackson, who managed the group and played a crucial role in shaping its career. Motown Records acts including Diana Ross and Gladys Knight recommended the Jacksons to label chief Berry Gordy Jr., who auditioned them in the summer of 1968. The first four Jackson 5 singles on Motown - "I Want You Back," "ABC," "The Love You Save" and "I'll Be There," respectively - all reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

The Jackson 5's Motown classics blended elements of R&B, soul, funk and pop, appealing to listeners across all ages and backgrounds. At the peak of their fame, the brothers even starred in their own animated series, The Jackson 5ive. The Jacksons left Motown for Epic Records in 1976, although Jermaine - now Gordy's son-in-law - remained with the label as a solo act, opening the door for another sibling, Randy Jackson, to join the ranks. Although Michael Jackson's meteoric solo career took center stage in the years to follow, the Jacksons continued to record and tour, and entered the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997.
